Sunne
Lutheran Youth returned from their 2010 Faith Adventure to the
Navajo Evangelical Lutheran Mission in Rock Point, Arizona.
While at the Mission, the group taught Vacation Bible School and
helped with several projects.
The Navajo Lutheran Mission is located in northeast Arizona in the
heart of the Navajo Nation, about 1250 miles from Wilton. The
participants enjoyed experiencing Navajo culture, learning about
Navajo customs and learned at Navajo jewelry and rug making.
Because the group traveled by van and pickup, they were able to see
much of the countryside. They spent time hiking around on Wolf
Creek Pass in Colorado, spent a day at the Grand Canyon, and viewed
Canon de Chelly.
Among the highlights of their trip were getting to know the children
at the Mission and exploring the desert. But the biggest
highlight, at least for some of the guys, occurred on the last
evening when they were invited out to a home in the desert to play
softball. The bases were flat rocks. The outfield was
sagegrush and sand dunes, but the "field" was surrouned by beautiful
red rock buttes and mesas.
